Authorities in Peru declare they’ve demolished greater than 50 tons of outdoor grown marijuana; with all the THC and cannabinoids being frivolously wasted. During a raid — much like the ones on innocent California medical marijuana dispensaries — lasting 5 days, law enforcement say they found a record 208,000 marijuana plants in two central regions of the country.

Based on a statement unveiled this week from the US Office of National Drug Control Policy, Peru will be the top producer of cocaine on earth, accompanied by Colombia and Bolivia. Analysts say that little is understood regarding Peru’s growing marijuana system. Peru’s Interior Minister Wilfredo Pedraza mentioned the cops operation resulted in the burning of seventeen times more cannabis than ended up being demolished in all of 2011.

Police Director Raul Salazar stated a total of 85 acres of organic marijuana plantations ended up destroyed in the Huanaco and La Libertad  regions. Salazar said the authorities had determined the brains behind the marijuana gardens and were moving in on him. Milton Rojas from the Peruvian Centre for Information and Education for the Prevention of Drug Abuse (CEDRO) declared the majority of Peru’s cannabis production appeared to be for domestic consumption.Rojas told the BBC’s Mattia Cabitza in Lima indicated that pot plants were progressively being grown together with coca plants.

In their yearly report, the US Office of National Drug Control Policy declared coca cultivation in Peru elevated by 34% between ’09 and ’10. According to the report, the very 1st time in the recent past, prospective pure Peruvian cocaine production surpassed that of Colombia. Peru’s Interior Minister Wilfredo Pedraza stated the federal government had been going after “an aggressive strategy” to reverse this trend.
