LA City Council Fires Up 2 Medical Marijuana Collective Measures For Vote

The council also gave preliminary approval to a third measure, sponsored by Councilman Paul Koretz

The Los Angeles City Council has voted to place two measures on the city ballot to regulate LA’s downtown medical marijuana collectives.

The council agreed Tuesday to let voters decide on the measures in May. One would limit the number of weed shops, A.K.A. clinics from several hundreds to around 100. The other would allow an unlimited number but keep them away from schools, parks and other places.

The council also gave preliminary approval to a third measure, sponsored by Councilman Paul Koretz, which would reduce the number of collectives and increase their business tax. However, that measure requires a second vote.

A union and a marijuana collective coalition that backed one of the earlier measures now say they’ll back Koretz’s measure.
